Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of disseminating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's significant age difference.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent conspiracy theory claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a legal action for defamation in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's biological sex.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his high school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
